Currently

My version vs. Mike's version of what I look like in the morning.

Making:
I've been making lots of vegan recipes lately, I've been working on making a crocheted afghan, and I pulled out an old unfinished quilt with the intentions of finishing it within the next few weekends.

Anticipating:
The SPRING! I'm definitely over the winter.

Learning:
About my ancestry. I signed up for an ancestry.com account and started building the family tree. I wish I could find more than just names.

Listening to:
I've been very uninspired by music lately. I've been listening to a lot of 70s/80s punk/new wave on Pandora and Spotify.

Wearing:
I got a Hello Apparel sweatshirt that I am loving, and I also picked up a couple of jeans from Target on clearance - one pair is teal, the other chartreuse!

Watching:
So glad The Walking Dead is back. I've also started watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix. It's become a guilty pleasure.

Walking in Nemo

The day after Nemo sort of hit our little city, I went on a walk with my friend Amanda to the park near our house to take a look at the snow. There were fewer photo opportunities than I had hoped for, but it was quite the workout climbing the hills of Prospect Park.

Except for a family with a few kids sledding down the hill near the entrance, the park was empty. We walked through the snow to the two overlooks in Prospect Park.

The first overlook faces south. You can see the Albany skyline from here as well as South Troy. I didn't get a good picture of the skyline, but this photo above makes South Troy look like a quaint little town.

The other overlook faces west and has views of Downtown Troy, and across the Hudson river. The bridge in the left side of the photo is the Congress Street Bridge that connects Downtown Troy to Watervliet.

We looped back around to the abandoned pool and tennis court area of the park and came across these unshoveled, unscaled stairs.

Walking through the park made me realize that I don't visit it enough and need to make more of an effort to take advantage of this place more often. It really is a hidden gem of our little city.

Stay Focused

Then it was my turn to get tattooed by Rich. He made up a killer drawing of a camera based on some references.

I wanted it on my inner bicep, but I was so nervous because I've heard it hurts. A lot.

Once I got through the outline, it wasn't so bad.

Shading done, time to add a little color and highlights.

4.5 hours later, the finished product. Better than I could have imagined it. I love it!

Warrior girl

Last week Mike finally got to collect on his Christmas present: a new tattoo.

We went back to our friend Rich at Lark Tattoo and he drew up a great piece based on a ton of reference that Mike had emailed him.

Mike was making a ton of great faces, this one however was staged.

 Starting the colors.

 Finished!

I can't wait to see this once it's fully healed. Thanks Rich! Up next: my new tattoo...

The first living room wall

When we picked out what color to paint the living room of the first floor apartment, we were a little more conservative than when we painted the kitchen. Now, we are focused on making the first floor a great rental space, so neutral was a must. Looking through a color pamphlet Mike picked up, I chose Olyimpic paint's Treasure Map. We went to the store and bought two gallons, grabbed the three shade swatch, and brought it home. We held the swatch up to our existing paint and realized that Treasure Map was a bit too similar to the color already on the wall. So we decided to go down to the second shade on the swatch, Bermuda Sand, slightly darker so that our bright white trim would pop a bit more. Mike took the two gallons of Treasure Map back to the store to see if they could add more tint and get us to Bermuda Sand. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. We couldn't get Bermuda Sand, but we got something darker and inadvertently made our own custom color. We're calling it "Christie Street."

 Emmett was not impressed.

Wall behind the couch - DONE!

At first, I thought it was a bit too desaturated, but on the wall I LOVE it! So, we reached the goal for this week and finished the wall behind the couch. I definitely can't wait to get the rest done!

Tax time. Those McDonalds receipts belong to Mike, NOT me, ew.

Emmett got squished between me & the couch.

Miyagi would get INSIDE of the radiator if he could.
