Last minute pumpkin carving

 With all of the party planning going on for the halloween party we threw, we didn't get a chance to carve pumpkins. Luckily, we found a spare moment the night before Halloween to get these done!

 M's original pumpkin from the farm had began to rot, so he ran to the supermarket and grabbed this giant.

 Upon carving the pumpkin, M discovered his replacement pumpkin was also going soft in the back, so he cut all the soft spots out of the back and realized the hole was now big enough to fit over his head...

 Last Sunday it was sunny and 80 degrees. Not your typical pumpkin picking weather, but we'll take it!

 I'm not big on mums in general, but I love orange mums in October. And only in October.

pumpkin patch

Pumpkin picking is one of our favorite fall traditions, and we were really looking forward to it this year. We drove out to a patch we hadn't visited before, but we had heard good things about it, so we were excited.

Pick Your Own is ESSENTIAL for us!

 We walked into the patch, and right off the bat saw that it was smaller and has less of a selection than the patch we usually go to.

In fact, this is what most of the selection looked like...

They had obviously picked the biggest and nicest to bring up to the farm store and what was left wasn't exactly....what we were looking for?

So we were forced to pick our pumpkins from the pre-picked selection at the store. Which was pretty disappointing. 

Next year we will definitely be going back to our good old standby!

yes, m did indeed employ the use of power tools in carving his pumpkin!

while i did it the old fashioned way: with the little tiny knife with the orange handle that comes in the carving kit!

so, what did we carve? any guesses? stay tuned for the answer....we don't want to ruin any halloween surprises!
