random twelve

1.Candy corn: Your thoughts?

when i was little my grandma used to have candy corn and the little candy pumpkins at her house. they were our october treats. i always liked the pumpkins more, even though they are exactly the same thing, just different shapes.

2. Briefly, what was the first conversation you ever had with your spouse? (or best friend, if you're not married.)

it was over sushi. it was about music. he tried to impress me by telling me his friend's band toured in europe with a band i like ;)   (psssssst! ....it worked!)

3. Could you ever become a vegetarian?

i was a vegetarian in high school. i gave it up in college because the dining hall thought that all vegetarians would be happy eating pasta for lunch and dinner EVERY DAY

4. Have you ever dressed up your pet in a costume?

my cats have a chicken hat that they hate. i dressed my little dog up as superman for halloween once. it was ridiculously cute.

5. Name something about childhood that you miss.

i miss watching christmas specials with my family with the only light in the room coming from the tv & the christmas tree

6. Have you ever won a trophy? If not, what do you deserve a trophy for?

i don't think i've ever won a trophy, but i should get one for being a ridiculously hard worker

7. When do you think is the appropriate time to begin playing Christmas music each year?
the day after thanksgiving is absolutely the earliest you should ever hear a christmas song!

8. What is your favorite board game?

trivial pursuit
.

9. How do you feel about surprises (receiving, not giving)?
i'm on the fence about receiving surprises. usually they are good things, but i like giving them much better!

10. Is it easy for you to say "I'm sorry?"

yes. i say it all the time.

11. What is your favorite candle scent?

banana bread!

12. October is traditionally "open house" time in public schools. If you had a literal open house in your home (like a reception) what light snacks would you serve visitors and what would you show them (as in art projects, graded papers) that would uniquely represent you?

i would serve homemade cupcakes with homemade buttercream frosting and i would show them all of my art on the walls to represent me, and all of m's nes collection to represent him

(these were posted over at In So Many Words. go check out her blog!)

the receiver at dublin underground

the dublin underground used to be a bar called savannah's. monday night was the first time i've been there since it changed. there are things that i like about it and things that i don't. on top of that do not like list would definitely be the dance club laser lights they shoot off from the front of the stage aimed right for the crowd's eyeballs. on top of the do like list was the fact that our friends' band was there to play. all the way from columbus ohio!

this odd little sitting area is rather cozy

i fell in love with their halloween window display.

we <3 the receiver!
and i bet you will too, you can check out all of their releases on their last.fm page

this week went by so fast! only one week to go til we're on the road!

but here's a recap of how this week flew by:
work...ALOT, gym, tanning bed to even out my tanktop tan lines for the strapless dress i'm wearing to my friend's wedding, Lost Season 1 streaming on netflix, shopping for party supplies, drinking a harpoon winter warmer with good friends, not enough sleep, not enough time, cleaning the apartment for the party, leg waxing mishap... lunchtime walks around downtown, eyeball jello shots, deviling eggs

...did i mention we're having a blow out halloween party tomorrow night? well, we are. it's going to be awesome! stay tuned!

behind a rolling ball

i snapped this picture on june 9, 2009 while driving on I-90 in albany. probably not the safest thing, but i was completely perplexed by the fact that the back of this truck not only had a cryptic message, but also bore my name.

pumpkin carving

styles and miyagi wonder what these giant orange orbs are that have invaded the kitchen

the most dangerous part: cutting the top!

iz doan noez...itz KINDA smells lyke foods...??

scraping up is hard to do

yes, m did indeed employ the use of power tools in carving his pumpkin!

while i did it the old fashioned way: with the little tiny knife with the orange handle that comes in the carving kit!

so, what did we carve? any guesses? stay tuned for the answer....we don't want to ruin any halloween surprises!

pumpkin picking

today was pumpkin picking day! and to kick it off, I had a nice autumn breakfast of maple brown sugar oatmeal and a pumpkin spice latte. both sprinkled generously with cinnamon!

away we go!

the original plan was to drive out to the farm and pick our own from the pumpkin patch, like we did last year.

we didn't have enough time for that, so we did the next best thing and went to the church up the street that sells pumpkins every year.

i want this one, it's perfect!

m picked a good one too...he'll just have to make sure the pattern includes cutting out the spot with the little hole!

northbound sunset

this photo was taken last summer as we drove through the adirondacks on the I-87 northway, just north of lake george, ny.

it seems like we are always in the car. we are a few weeks away from embarking on the biggest road trip yet, and we'll be documenting it here.

stay tuned.
