eight questions

I was tagged by AlyciAmore
to answer the following eight questions.
But because I've already tagged 8 people previously, I want YOU to comment with your own answers!

1.) If you could live in any person's shoes for a day, who would it be?
I've always said that I would want to live a day in the life of Gwen Stefani...but I'd like to modify that to say, it would have to be a day that No Doubt are playing a show, and her husband and kids would not be a part of that day.

2.) If you could live anywhere in the world, no financial limits, where would it be?
I would love to live somewhere secluded and quiet, like by a lake with a deck overlooking the water.

3.) If you could donate a million dollars to any charity, which one would you choose?
I would donate the money to the ASPCA or the Humane Society, because animals mean a lot to me.

4.) What is your favorite comfort food?
Ice Cream!! ...is that a comfort food?

5.) What is your earliest childhood memory?
I remember being in kindergarten and my dad coming to school on fire prevention day and talking to my class, because he was the town fire chief.

6.) If you could change your name to anything, what would it be?
I always think that I would like a more simple, classic name like Sarah or Samantha or Jenny.

7.) If you could start life over, would you?
I think about this a lot. There are time where I wish I hadn't gone to school in Boston (because I wouldn't have so much student loan debt), when I wish I hadn't lived in Brooklyn (awesome, but totally a waste of time). But then I think about it some more, and realize that all those decisions brought me to where I am today, and if I hadn't done the things I have done, I might not be where I am right now. For better or for worse.

8.) If you could be famous for one thing, what would you want to be famous for?
Art.

Dear M,
You've been away on this mini-tour all week and I miss you. Please come home soon!

Dear Air Conditioning,
I usually take you for granted, but I wanted to take this minute to say thank you so much for making summer so much more enjoyable.

Dear Saratoga,
Opening day is tomorrow, and we're going to miss it for the first time in 3 years because of this tour M is on. It makes me sad, but we will come hang out very soon. And we'll be bringing our best buds with us!

we have mice!

Recently we were cleaning the apartment and decided it was time to pull out the stove and clean underneath it. When we shined a flashlight under there, we saw that this was the preferred storage location for Styles and Miyagi's toys.

...now that's a lot of cat toys...

Compton's

We were headed for Lake George and wanted to find some good, cheap breakfast on the way. Out came the iPhone to research Saratoga, and up popped Compton's. Several reviewers stated it was great food and very inexpensive, others claimed it was the only place to get a decent "hangover breakfast" in Saratoga. So Compton's it was!

We got a sweet booth right in the window, so we were able to people watch Broadway while we dined.

A delicious cheesy omelet with home fries and bacon.

M's usual.

Cheap as hell and delicious. If we lived in Saratoga, we'd be regulars.

Dear Heat,
I had forgotten how oppressive you can be when you show up with your friend sunshine. You make me want to eat ice cream, and that's not a good thing!

Dear M,
Next week you're going on a small tour and will be gone for a few days. I'm going to miss you a lot. Please hurry home, we have a lot of fun stuff planned when you get back!

Dear Styles and Miyagi,
You have pushed us to become "those people" who cover their couches with sheets so that when guests come over we can just pull them off instead of vacuuming your hair off the couches for hours. Do you appreciate the things we do for you guys? Probably not.

soft serve

When we were in Lake George recently, and craving ice cream, we went to Martha's across the street from Six Flags Great Escape. There was a sign under the neon bragging that they had been featured on the Today Show last summer when it was broadcast from Lake George. I have to say, I was impressed. They change their flavors daily, and have some pretty inventive ones to choose from. I had a Peanut Butter soft serve cone, and M had a Cotton Candy cone rolled in Cotton Candy pieces. He loved his cone so much that we went back a few days later and he was devestated to find they didn't have Cotton Candy on the menu that night. So he made me grab a flavor calendar so that we can monitor when the cotton candy will be back.

wow

Last weekend we were out and about in Lake George, and saw this gentleman. He spent the evening at a table in the middle of a crowed bar on his laptop, playing World of Warcraft. Oh, did I mention he is a 60-something cowboy?

mollie's mason jar

While spending the weekend in a small Adirondack town, we were told that Mollie's Mason Jar was THE place to eat, so off we went for brunch. We walked in the door to see the deserted dining room pictured above, and expected to be seated right away. The hostess took our name and told us the wait was 30 minutes and that we were welcome to sit at one of the empty tables and drink some complimentary coffee while we waited. We looked at each other in disbelief. Did she really tell us to take a seat at an empty table to wait for a table? Ok...

We waited the 30 minutes because, honestly the only other place to get breakfast was the convenience store up the street. I'm glad we waited.

I ordered the South of the Border omelet. I was so hungry when it came out that I started devouring it before realizing I forgot to take a picture! (oops!) It was really good, but it must have been sitting back in the kitchen for a while because it wasn't hot, and the cheese inside had the melted-then-sat-there-a-while-so-kinda-recongealed consistency.  The homefries were delicious, and the waitress actually asks you if you'd prefer them with or without onions. M liked his eggs, bacon, and sausage. He said they were cooked well and tasted very fresh.

We also ordered french toast, and I was not happy with it at all. There were black specks of god knows what from the griddle all over it, that I originally thought was just some cooked-on cinnamon. But I was wrong, because the french toast was bland as hell. There was definitely no cinnamon or any other spices on these, so what the hell were the black specs? M liked the french toast, but also revealed that he has low french toast standards: "I don't care what the toast tastes like as long as the syrup is good."

Overall, we were pleased with the meal, for four of us the total was about $40, and we had a TON of food. In fact, we liked it so much we went back the next day and had breakfast again!

Dear iPhone4,
I ordered you a little while back, and the folks at apple said you should arrive by july 16. Do you think maybe you could hurry up and get here as soon as possible? Thanks!

Dear Heatwave,
You are a little over the top, I'm sorry to say. Could you please back off a little bit? 80 degrees would be much more tolerable.

Dear Native American Genes,
Yes, the other 75% of my genes are a mixture of Dutch and Scottish...I know that you're kind of outnumbered, but do you think you can be a little more assertive. I'd love to be in the sun for more than 10 minutes without completely burning.

patriotic macarons

I wanted to make a patriotic dessert for our 4th celebrations, so I decided to go with my latest obsession: macarons. Red, white, and blue macarons to be more specific. The "red" came out more like pink, and were filled with raspberry buttercream. The "white" baked up to be more yellow...they were vanilla. The "blue" had a green tinge to them, and were filled with blueberry buttercream. I think I also whipped the batter a little too much because the peaks didn't settle when I baked them. So they looked a littled wonky, but they still tasted pretty sweet!

goodbye buddha

I talked to my mom this afternoon and she told me they had to put one of the cats down today. She found him this morning with a very sudden, very serious condition and they chose to not prolong his pain and suffering.

He had a hard life from the start. When I was living in Brooklyn, and had just gotten my dog Milo, we were on a walk and Milo kept pulling me toward this chainlink fence, so I went over to see what he was so captivated by. It was a tiny grey 6 week old kitten with an upper respiratory infection, and eyes crusted shut. Laying there on the sidewalk all alone. I knew that if I just walked away he would surely die. And luck would have it, I was going to visit my parents upstate that day. So I went home, found a box, and packed the tiny sick kitten up for a ride.

My mother, father, and sister took him in and nursed him back to health.

He had a very happy six years with my family. We're going to miss him.

This week...

...broke a toe because I was dumb enough to try to help move furniture in flip flops :(
...had the most delicious peanut butter soft serve at Martha's in Lake George!
...I wish I knew ios4 would kill my iPhone 3G and my soul, I would have never updated. Grrrrrr :(
...it's really difficult to focus on work when anticipating a 3 day weekend full of sun, lake, pool, fireworks, macarons, frozen yogurt, and frontier town!
...baked patriotic macarons...each batch is a new adventure...
...went out on the town to see Miss Ashley, who's on a brief visit from the west coast.
...still can't wear real shoes days later thanks to the broken pinkie toe :(

Dear High Protein Diet,
You're pretty easy to stick to, delicious, and filling. You may just be the thing that gets me into my first bikini. Thanks!

Dear Bed,
I love spending time with you. In fact, you're so great that every morning when my alarm goes off I contemplate never leaving you. I'm always left wanting more.

Dear Sunshine,
I'm a pale girl, despite being 25% Native American. I must have picked up the Scottish and Dutch genes hardcore. But I love you so much, and every time we get together I end up looking like a giant lobster.

Dear Peanutbutter Pandemonium Waffle Cone from Stewarts,
I have been DREAMING about you all week. Your creamy vanilla ice cream, your swirls of peanutbutter and chocolate, your little mini peanutbutter cups, your sweet crispy waffle cone. I just wish you weren't so bad for me!
